Keeping the  "All" in Burstall

May 2026

Greetings,

I hope this message finds you well. May was a busy month for Town Council and Staff. Council has budgeted to do much needed manhole repairs each year. In May we were able to repair five manholes. The crew was efficient and did excellent work. In addition, tree root removal was completed on the sewer mains on Jubilee, Langley and Dunning streets.

Water Tank Project – Level 4 Water Restrictions remain in effect as of this writing. It took the company approximately a week to get their scope of work completed. The next step was a full week for the curing stage. The filling of the tank is now underway. The fill will be slow as there are steps that must be completed along the way to ensure safety of the water. Please adhere to the restrictions, as water usage outside of the restrictions will only prolong the tank fill and can cause safety issues with the water.

Why was this water tank project scheduled in May? With a company that does water tank projects from coast to coast, when given two options - beginning of May or the middle of June, Town Council chose May. It seemed the logical choice rather than June heat, gardens in progress and in crop spraying.

Water rate increase (10%) has been approved through the SK Municipal Board and will be applied in the next billing cycle. Provincial laws require municipalities to operate services such as sewer, water and solid waste as utilities which are funded entirely through user fees. The utilities in Burstall were previously at an 80% recovery rate, and according to government services, fees need to increase over the next few years to bring the utility back to being funded. There has not been an increase since 2024.

Please continue to check the Town website and Facebook page for important updates and other community reminders.

Sincerely,

Mayor Bodnarchuk
